S2W3 Friday: IP address shortage, Google Art Project, Adobe PS

1. Review of both Quizzes

Time to review both the quizzes and get them back.

2. IP Address Shortage

The first article today concerns the lack of IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) addresses available. IPv4 is a 32-bit address which translates into about 4.3 unique address spaces. Almost all 4.3 billion addresses are now spoken for. IPv6 is now being introduced and will proved billion more addresses allowing even the most innocuous objects to be furnished with IP addresses - like your shoes or glasses perhaps.

Check this simple explanation:

3. Internet Art Topics

The second article I'd like you to look at today concerns Google's new art project. This should be of particular interest to those taking IB Art:

And here is the site:

And, on the subject of art, this is the truly astounding site of a guy I would consider to be one of the best mondern digital artisits I know of, 31fps:

Finally, check out the site of British artist extraordinaire Banksy. If you have no idea who he is, shame on you:

A documentary film about him "Exit Through the Gift Shop" has just come out. Well worth looking into:

Here's a clip:

4. Adobe Photoshop

And lastly for today, I would like you to go ahead and install Adobe Photoshop CS5 - it is located on the server under Secondary/Curriculum/Computing/Adobe Photoshop. Ask me over when you start the install as you may well need help. Read the readme document to get an idea of what to do.

It may take quite a while to install and not everyone should have a go at once, so you can continue on your hosted website project too and complete your webquest if you have not already done so.

Its insane to think that weve almost run out of space in the web.. That shows you how much the population is into technology, and my guess is it only gets bigger and bigger.

It is very surprising that so many people are on the internet! It feels strange to think that the internet could stop working because it has so many people on it.
