S2W3 Monday: Trends 2011, Augmented Reality and Professor Teaches

1. Sixteen Technology-Driven Trends for 2011

The first link for today is an article that plots out some of the trends set to shape technology in 2011. Please have a read:
What are the implications of the trend towards mobile computing and Internet? Please leave a comment outlining your thoughts on the matters discussed in the article. Consider the levelling affect of mobile computers in the developing world where the threshold for computing is being lowered so more individuals are empowered. Imagine how countries like China, Indonesia and India might change as so-called smart phones with extensive Internet capabilities becomes more widespread. The political ramifications of communication through the likes of Twitter has been seen across Northern Africa in recent weeks. What might the future hold?

2. Augmented Reality

That's right, the future has arrived. We are currently seeing an explosion in application that use this technology. Please watch the video below for a brief introduction to this topic:
Here is a look at how it might look when integrated into glasses:
And here a more prosaic application:

We will revisit this topic later in the term and perhaps try our hand at it ourselves.

Pretty much everything in the near future will have some involvement of technology. Its shocking too see that smartphones and tablet computers will become more redundant in the future.

I thought the "Top 16" article was interesting put it was written with too much bias. The man also has a creepy look about him not someone i would have over to my house.

The top 16 article was really interesting. I can definetly agree with all of these trends and I can definetly see how they are going to be very big in 2011.

too many words involved but the main topics looked really fancy and involved a lot of technology .The old guy is a creeper.

It will be weird that everything will be so advanced to even have 3D computers. This is very intense and weird to rely so much on computers and technology.

A lot of the ideas he discussed were about buisnesses advancing, but more smart phones seem like a cool idea..

It really isn't surprising to me that people will soon be able to see things just like Tony Stark did, technology is advancing at tremendous speeds and it will soon be the common factor between societies. It is cool to see it happen but its not shocking anymore.

its cool and all, but its imaginable, it was bound to happen sometime.

I like the idea that mobile internet will become more widespread because this will lower the cost for everyone.

Unlike the vast majority of these types of articles that I've read, the majority of these ideas actually don't seem too far fetched. True, I still think that 3D displays are idiotic, but the rest of them seem to be decent ideas.
